Aromatherapy & Ayurveda Immersion – February 2012

Lucy Miller – of Lucy Miller Pure – is an accomplished natural perfumer.

She joined our Ayurvedic Aromatherapy Immersion in 2010, with David Crow and Niika Quistgard, and found herself hungry to come back!

“I left Rasa Ayurveda last year after that amazing Immersion, and went on for 10 days on my own with a guide. I went to Varanasi and did a ceremony on the Ganga, then on to Agra and Jaipur, and so on. While those experiences were totally awesome and rich, nothing gave me the absolute culture like the trek we took together during the Immersion to Cochin, Munnar and to the tribal village to see the lemongrass distillation in its pure and simple form. I equally loved the learning opportunities at Rasa Ayurveda with Dr. Geetha. who I found to be quite fabulous! So, I’m excited about coming back to share my knowledge with any woman fortunate enough to who join us for the Aromatherapy & Ayurveda Immersion in February, 2012.”

On aromatherapy, Lucy says,

“My mantra in holistic aromatherapy is simple:

Learn. Discover. Create.
Healing and beauty are intertwined!

I strive to unleash their power through pure, natural scents that are inspiring and unforgettable.

My own sensory journey was shaped by the smells that constantly emanate from the tropical environment where I was born , a small, seaside village on the west coast of Florida. My father fished the Gulf waters. My mother approached the sustenance of life in a straightforward and natural manner with fresh fish, fresh fruit and fresh flowers on our table every evening. As a young girl it was my job to scour our yard every day to collect fragrant mangoes, oranges, key limes and fresh herbs for the dinner table.

In my room at night, I breathed the scent of the salty air as it swirled outside my window, punctuated with a sharp tang of grapefruit blossom, and the sweet aroma of frangipani. I drifted off to sleep lulled by these fragrant breezes night after night, as the seeds of my future as a natural perfumer were planted. As long as can remember, part of me has lived in the realm of natural scents. It’s been my natural desire to share the beauty and healing potential of this world by creating ethereal essential fragrances that float along with the wearer in subtle simplicity, in natural harmony.

As I matured,  I became interested in the function of the human body and the healing powers of holistic medicine. I earned a BA in nursing and an MS in anesthesiology, with a concentration in immunology and worked as a nurse and nurse practitioner for 20 years, supporting patients by encouraging their use of whole foods, whole herbs and whole plants for preventative wellness and as a first method of treatment for critical illness.  All the while, I dreamed of aromas.

So I trained with the world’s leading aromatherapists and perfumers, including Andrea Butje, Rhianna Harris, Robert Tisserand, Mandy Aftel, and Ayala Moriel.  I’m a graduate of the Aromahead Institute and a member of the NAHA (National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy) and AIA (Alliance of International Aromatherapists).

And I traveled the world seeking authentic aromatherapy knowledge. I learned the value of subtleness by studying Koh-doh (the ancient incense ritual) in Japan.  I traveled to the Tahitian Islands to visit distillers of the captivating, sweet tiare flower. I hiked to remote Indian villages visiting authentic mud-oven distilleries, and with Ayurveda Trip I have walked through forests of ancient Mysore sandalwood trees where their warm and musky scent wrapped around and hugged me through the thick air.

I’m very excited about sharing my knowledge and this incredible journey with students!”
